A NEW MEMBER OF COUNTRY MUSIC'S CHURCH
Last night at the Grand Ole Opry marked a milestone for Darius
Rucker who officially became a member of the organization after an
induction from Vince Gill. During the show, several friends of
Rucker including Brad Paisley, Jason Aldean, Alan
Jackson, golfer Tiger Woods and Keith Urban shared
their congrats through video. Urban's video claimed he was in Las Vegas and
couldn't make it in person for the event, but suddenly Keith walked out onto
the Opry stage and hugged Darius while the crowd screamed.
Before the show got under way, Rucker expressed what it meant to
him to become a member:
"There's not many genres of music that have their church the church of country music is the Grand Ole Opry. It's one of those things that meant so much to me because I knew if I could ever be a member it wasn't…there's no more conversation about me being accepted or anything… I'm in. And you look at the names of the people that have been inducted and they're legends. They are legends… they're modern day legends and old time legends and for me to now be, you know, right next to them standing shoulder and shoulder to them that was something I dreamt about and now it's a dream come true." -Darius Rucker
Darius says that he will fulfill his member duties and play the Opry stage as much as he can:
"I play the Opry a lot
now, but you know I like playing the Opry it's easy I live in South Carolina
it's easy to get in the bus, drive overnight play golf all day, play the Opry,
drive back home. You know, that's something that I do a lot. You know I've made
my commitment to them and I plan to hold up to it." - Darius Rucker"There's not many genres of music that have their church the church of country music is the Grand Ole Opry.
