MALIBU COUNTRY COMES TO TOWN

MALIBU COUNTRY COMES TO TOWN - NOVEMBER 6, 2012

REBA'S SITCOM DEBUT GETS BIG RATINGS

Reba's new TV sitcom Malibu Country made its debut on Friday night and the new show put up good ratings for ABC. Entertainment Weekly reports that 8.9 million people viewed the premiere of Malibu Country and the show had an adult demographic rating of 2.2. The show's demo was bigger than the premieres of NBC's Animal Practice and FOX's Ben and Kate and Malibu Country is shown on Friday, which is known as a tougher night for ratings. The only other regular-time-period new comedy debut that had more viewers this fall was NBC's Go OnMalibu Country is part of ABC's new Friday night comedy block that includes actor Tim Allen's show Last Man Standing that debuted on Tuesday night last year and was switched to a Friday slot this year. Last Man Standinghad 7.8 million viewers watch the season two premiere on Friday and the show had an adult demo rating of 1.9.

Watch the show for free with limited commercials here:

The show is typical sitcom fare, and not anything to write home to Nashville about.  But Reba is charming, and the other stars are fun too.  Check it out, but don't expect an Emmy Award winner out of this one...

STORING SUMMER BERRIES

AUGUST 6, 2012 - STORING SUMMER BERRIES
Storing Summer Berries: 5 Tips We Learned the Hard Way
1. Timing is everything: Only rinse berries right before you use them. Water increases the likelihood they'll start to mold.
2. Don't soak: Place them in a colander and rinse water over them instead of fully submerging them.
3. Give them a quick chill: You know how sun-ripened, warm berries have that delightful soft messiness to them? Well, that is what makes them taste just like summer, but it's also what makes them incredibly delicate and difficult to wash. So a good tip is to refrigerate them for an hour or so when you bring them home from the market. They're easier to rinse when they've had a chance to firm up just a bit.
4. Storage is the key: After washing berries, let them rest in a colander in the refrigerator and another vessel that has some air circulation. This will help them dry out more considerably than if just placed in a bowl. Place a paper towel in the colander first, then slide out later.
5. Avoid the crisper: Many people believe that berries will go bad more quickly if kept in the crisper because the air has a higher humidity and doesn't circulate as much as throughout the rest of the refrigerator. In a very unscientific sampling, I find this to be true and follow this myself.  In fact, I think my husband may have tossed the berries I just bought into the crisper.  They're probably rotten. :(

GARY ALLAN, SONGS ABOUT LIFE

GARY ALLAN, SONGS ABOUT LIFE - NOVEMBER 5, 2012

ALLAN WILL BE ROLLING YOU THROUGH EMOTIONS
Gary Allan will be releasing a brand new album early next year that features his current single "Every Storm (Runs Out of Rain)." After what may have seemed like a long wait for Gary Allan fans, the singer-songwriter is getting ready to release a new set of tunes. His upcoming album, Set You Free, will hit shelves early next year, Gary announced last week. The California native produced several of the album's tracks on his own, and put veteran producers Mark Wright and Jay Joyce at the helm on other songs. The combination of their work made for a lot of great songs and a little healthy competition.
Allan shares what fans can expect from the new project:
"You can expect a lot of honesty and a lot of songs about life. It's gonna roll you through a break up and it's gonna roll you through the anger and the healing and wind you up at good as new. So I think that what you can expect is something a little different musically out of this but it's still got the common thread."-Gary Allan

The House of Blues in Atlantic City had to reschedule Gary Allan’s show from November 1, 2012 due to Hurricane Sandy.  They moved the date to March 29, 2013.  You can help the victims of Hurricane Sandy by donating to the American Red Cross, text SANDY to 90999 to make a $10 donation.

REBA AND THE CMAs

REBA AND THE CMAs - NOVEMBER 1, 2012
The 46th Annual Country Music Association Awards are airing tonight on ABC at 7pm.  Fans and artists alike enjoy the awards tonight, and artists like Reba are no exception.

Reba will be appearing on the 46th Annual CMA Awards tonight just one night before her new ABC sitcom Malibu Country premieres. Hanging out at CMA rehearsals this week, Reba shared why she loves award shows so much and what it's about for her:

(Reba) "Oh it's about family reunion, I mean, I know everybody here, meeting the new artists meeting some of the new artists. That's the best part about an award show you do get to meet the new artists that you hadn't seen before, you've heard them on the radio, you've seen their new videos and so to meet 'em in person is really neat. And to give 'em encouragement and say, 'Welcome to the family.'"

Jason Aldean is nominated in the Entertainer of the Year category at tonight's CMA Awards in Nashville, while he would love to get any CMA nod, he's shooting for the big honor tonight:
(Jason Aldean) "Entertainer of the Year to me I mean, I've never, you know there's never been any question that that's one on my bucket list that I want. I mean I'm not gonna sit here and lie to ya if there's one that could ever get my… I would trade all the rest of them in for that one. That one and so yeah, that one means probably more to me than any of 'em but I'm also if they give me one of the other ones I'll take that one too I'm just saying."

For Faith Hill, tonight's CMA Awards is like a comeback of sorts as she performs her brand new single "American Heart." At rehearsals earlier this week, Faith admitted that she will be a bit nervous to step on the CMA stage tonight:
(Faith Hill) "I do get nervous but you know I try and put it in a great spot. I think that only comes with experience 'cause I used to get so nervous I couldn't even… I didn't know what to do with my nerves. The biggest thing for me honestly I love this song and it's just fun to be able to play it with my band. I don't get to play with them much anymore 'cause I don't tour so it's just a like a party, It'll be a party Thursday night."

Halloween Safety Tips

OCTOBER 31, 2012 - HALLOWEEN SAFETY TIPS

HALLOWEEN SAFETY TIPS:

As thousands of little ghouls and goblins and piratesand princesses head to the streets tonight for Halloween, authorities areasking parents and drivers to be extra cautious to prevent the night having atragic ending.  Parents need to be prepared andconsider safety when planning trick-or-treating routes and costumes.

Here are some safety guidelines:
Walk with your kidsup to the door.
Stay in neighborhoodsthat are familiar to you.
Be very aware ofloose, flowing costumes. Many homes will have candles on the porch.
Keep thechild-to-adult ratio low to ensure all children are being properly monitored atall time for safety.
Make sure costumesare flame-retardant and light or bright in color. Dark costumes should havereflective or glow in the dark tape. Costumes should also be short enough toprevent tripping.
Use face paintsrather than a mask that can obstruct both breathing and vision, and to makesure every child has a nametag complete with their address and telephonenumbers and a flashlight.
Treats should not beeaten until the child is home so that you can inspect everything first. Lookfor signs of tampering and discard all loose and homemade treats (unless youknow the person who provided them).
Warn children, atthis time and always, to never accept a ride with a stranger and to always telltheir parent exactly where they will be going, what time to expect them homeand to stick to the plan.
Motorists also need to be cautious tonight when out and about, andavoid traveling through residential areas, as trick-or-treaters may not bepaying attention to traffic and may be trying to cross in the middle of a blockor between parked cars. Motorists should scan far ahead when driving inresidential areas, watch for children and cautiously monitor their actions.Turn on your headlights to make yourself more visible - even in the daylight.
Darius Rucker – who admits he always dresses up each year atHalloween with his kids - talks about his favorite Halloween costume, and what,or should we say who, he’s going to dress as this year:

PAISLEY AND DOLLY

OCTOBER 30, 2012 - PAISLEY AND DOLLY
A couple of funny stories from Nashville today, and I thought I would share them with you off the radio...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MR. PAISLEY

Brad Paisley celebrated his 40th birthday on Sunday and in honor of this occasion, Paisley's Grand Ole Opry Family sent him a special birthday greeting from the Opry stage. The video shows a woman standing next to a giant birthday cake on the legendary stage with her back facing the camera. The woman is dressed like Marilyn Monroe when she sang the now iconic "Happy Birthday Mr. President" song to President John F. Kennedy in 1962. She substitutes the words "Mr. Paisley" for "Mr. President" and then once she finishes singing the song, the clip cuts to Little Jimmy Dickens who is dressed up in the very same Monroe white dress complete wig and fake bosom and he says, "Happy Birthday Mr. Paisley," before he grabs his fake boobs and says, "This girdle is killing me."  Just watch!

DOLLY AND THE SEVEN DWARFS
With her lovable personality and stunning looks, it's easy to see why the world so wholly embraces the legendary Dolly Parton. These attributes also give the singer a certain enchanting quality that might have some saying that Dolly is indeed the fairest of them all. When it comes to having her own affinity with a fabled fair lady, Parton says she identifies herself with a woman whose heart is as white as snow, but it might not be for the most wholesome reason. Dolly tells Vanity Fair that her favorite fairytale character is, "Snow White, because she slept with the seven dwarfs and got away with it."

Here's a hilarious Carol Burnett Snow White skit...enjoy!

A HAUNTING WE WILL GO!

OCTOBER 29, 2012 - A HAUNTING WE WILL GO!

Hauntings for Halloween!

There are some interesting haunted spots in the SE Missouri area, some of which can be found in Cape!

Read about Old Lorimer Cemetary and The Glenn House here:

http://theghostsofcapegirardeau.blogspot.com/

As Halloween approaches, Rodney Atkins ponders if the Grand Ole Opry – who has hosted the likes of Hank Williams, Patsy Cline, Tammy Wynette, Johnny Cash and more – is haunted? He shares:
Rodney Atkins: "Do I believe in ghosts? For the Grand Ole Opry? That place is full of spirit. To me, that’s why they call it the mother church. Is...You go there, it’s why you go to church on Sunday. Your spirit’s renewed. You’re reminded how you’re supposed to live as a country artist. How you’re supposed to carry yourself, of what you’re representing. You're reminded by the Grand Ole Opry."

If you have a haunting story, share it!
