Teenagers are sitting around Cape
Girardeau, rotting from the boredom.
Give them a job. The only key is
that they must have the appropriate work forms on file with the superintendent
of schools where they are enrolled, if they work in more than a domestic
capacity. Guidelines: teens under 16 can work without certificate
on paper routes, yard work or babysitting, or as recreational sports referees. If it is in most other capacities, they must
have the proper paperwork. Employers can
be penalized by the Missouri Department of Labor for employing under 16 workers
without proper certification, or in tasks that are prohibited. If you are an employer, double check your
paperwork!
Melissa Miller of the Southeast
Missourian has a great article on the front page this morning, featuring a
couple of our kids’ friends working at Cape Splash. Our daughter babysits. Our son just sits. And I am trying to figure
out the best way to get him employed.
Perhaps I should just pay him to clean house for the equivalent of the
time the girl spends babysitting—then I won’t have to do it!
The funny thing is, he decided to
teach me how to use the new vacuum cleaner last night. I asked him to put it together after we
purchased it yesterday, but got tickled when he felt the need to take me
through the basic operations. This kid
is hilarious.
