JULY 5, 2012 - BEAT THE HEAT
Extreme heat is keeping us in
the house with the kids during the summer. If you’ve had enough of
television, Playdoh, and board games, check our list below for ideas to get out
the house while still avoiding the elements. Many of these area activities
are free!
·
Have you explored your local library
lately? Join the summer reading program and have your child sign up for
their own library card. It’s so exciting for little ones to use the
self-checkout scanner too!
·
Malls can be for more than
just shopping. Many have free “Kids’ Klubs” including special crafts,
activities or performances once or twice per month.
·
Missouri is home to dozens of world class art, science and historical museums. The
Nature Conservation Center has activities, and the Trail of Tears has a visitor
center.
·
Experience live children’s theatre…
·
Let someone else clean up the craft mess. Some stores offer free craft sessions throughout the
summer.
·
Bounce houses are always a great way for the kids
to burn off some energy indoors and there are many facilities throughout the
area. Some offer special playtimes just for toddlers. Le Bounce in
Cape is cool and there is delicious fare for parents at Café Soupe’.
·
Hit the lanes for low cost, flyers and ads in the
paper have coupons for free bowling.
·
Go to the movies for a matinee…it’s cheaper!
·
Discovery Playhouse downtown is a great place,
with camps and fun events.
·
If you just can’t keep them inside, hit Cape
Splash. At least it’s wet…but take some water shoes, because the pavement will
cook your feet!
Enjoy what’s left of your
summer…and your sanity.
